Switched to Ubuntu and looking for a convenient messenger. Basic protocols — ICQ, jabber, Skype.

As it turned out, the most difficult to find MetaContact.

pidgin, empathy. both are Multiprotocol in General is good. empathy has a terrible interface by default, both gtk and qt — kopete

also use Glyco qutim'ohms just because pidgin/emptathy have a very comfortable and usable interfaces that cannot be treated with plug-ins. Here you can configure Kopete to a comfortable state — but he's QT and draws too much KDEшных dependencies. Tried it yet mdc.ru/ — interesting idea but still something of me in him was not satisfied. Also not satisfied with Instantbird.
Still Licq is not bad but it looks too ancient.
