I'm working with Java platform and scripting language as me for obvious reasons more interesting and Groovy.

With Python I had to meet because of the Institute. To time and efforts were not in vain, I want to use it, but not to go in the jungle. See the administrative scripts under Linux and possibly procedural extension for Postgresql. Need your opinions, habra-people, about the branches of language and literature?

There is such a book.
Branch is probably the second. The third is also mostly works, but under it less libraries.
To administer shell easier though, because the standard.
To use the Python "without understanding" is quite possible, neochilenia designs at least.

diveintopython definitely
Branch 2nd for design, 3 for implementation, if you convert from the second. 3-her few libraries, no such paramiko, pycrypto, gevent and heaps of other libraries, which allows you to make very quick things.

Good continuation — the study of specific documentation of the framework. A lot of them for different tasks — web, interfaces, games and so on.
