Google loves Java and love Python because Python compiles to Java bytecode. Python is popular everywhere on it and system administrators write scripts and GUI apps have. Perl basically turns on the server.

In The Mail.ru love Perl :) However, the Python we also love just large projects on it less. Come to work for us :)

each in its own rights. Perl is good language, whatever may be said about the fact that he died :) Powerful, with a bunch of modules on cane used in different areas. But after 5 years in Perl I switched to Python. Why? I wanted coherence, flexibility, and normal OOP (well, almost normal). Of the options the Python liked the most (but was also considered ruby and others). While I do not regret.
