OpenVPN can be easily lifted in the presence of tun module. If virtualization using XEN without problems, and OpenVZ does not give manually the modules to connect.
I use OpenVPN to a minimum VPS (firstvds) for the purposes of protection from interception in Open WiFi networks. It is quite normal.
