Hello. Prompt, please, good books on the theory of creating web servers: what to read? Is there a kind of Bible in this area? Thanks in advance.

In the words of our teacher "to understand how the circuit works client-server, imagine a prostitute and a client, and you will understand."

Purely sporting interest. Interested to learn how to work with web servers (Apache, nginx, etc). Here and need a book that explains what makes a web server, what tasks should solve it.

MrSteve, note #2 from Douglas Camera. IMHO this is what you need.

Not long ago I answered a similar question, here is copy-paste.

Russian-language literature on network programming:
1) the First book on network programming.
a) If you want to know everything completely and have a bunch of free time
Richard Stevens "UNIX Network Programming" — a classic. The translation, said to be good.
b) If the time is not very much, and spoiling for a fight
Sean Walton "Creation of network applications in Linux" is a Small book, great review. Perfect for beginners. The translation is good.
\r
2) the Second book on network programming
the third volume from Douglas Camera "application Development client/server for Linux/POSIX". It makes sense to read after Walton. Or with Stevens. But you can not read, but simply to look through in search of something necessary/interesting. The translation is good.
\r
3)After/along with Stevens or after Walton read Douglas Schmidt, "Programming networked applications in C++" is a whole another level of abstraction. A must reed if you have decided to seriously engage in the networks. The quality of the translation do not know anything.

If programming is not going to, then you can just take the rfc. And yet, Krishnamurti "Web protocols theory and practice", is more of a reference book, but also probably will do.

All here mentioned books afaik are available in electronic form.

The Bible is not. There is documentation on configuring the software
\r
(Apache/Nginx/etc, they all have very detailed manuals, which very much has been written about the fact that they can, in some cases, how best to configure, and in which cases you should pay attention in terms of OS/hardware/etc)
