I have an old laptop HP Omnibook xt6200 (P-IV-M, 1.7 Gb, 256 ddr, Hdd 20Gb 4200rpm 2.5"). He served faithfully, never failed. Jammed, broken, but still in working condition (once the battery recently completely died). Sorry to leave. Plan to add RAM (supports up to 2Gb) and SSD with UltraATA interface. Then, at the same time, it would be a notable topic and in the "Old iron".

Question: a 2.5" SDD with UltraATA interface, whether to buy, what brand and where to purchase? Can eat still any nuances...

Volume up to 32-64Gb quite satisfied.

PS I would Like to hear feedback of habrovky had the experience of buying or using.

Maybe better than the CF -> IDE adapter with a CF card? I think it would be cheaper.

It seems to me that the biggest problem is to find SSD PATA interface. Because they are, in my opinion, and not released ever.
Support the above comments, just want to raise the performance:
two modules of 1Gb (for example forum3.ru/descr.aspx?code=29442 ) ~ 3000 Rubles.
hard drive is also where some 3,000 rubles.
While SSDS... except that to take forum3.ru/descr.aspx?code=83281 and to muddy the adapter SATA->IDE, and not the fact that it will fit in the compartment, plus the price is about 9000 rubles...
Well, or do CF card type www.transcendusa.com/Products/ModDetail.asp?ModNo=252&LangNo=0&Func1No=1&Func2No=13
but again the price...

Just the main problem here is the CPU performance, SSD\\Flash certainly raise the comfort of work (due to the minimum seek time) but the radical productivity gains will not.

I do not think that will topic.
The main problem is in memory, the old memory is hard to find and it costs much more modern.
Buy HDD 5400rpm, 250-320Gb (for smaller size say less performance). On the old CPU/platform is hardly possible to achieve significant performance boost for the SSD are also worth 2 times more expensive than SATA-shnyh.
\r
In the aggregate, even total 512Mb RAM + 5400rpm will give a comfortable performance.
\r
Platform obsolete: even on a fairly new Core2Duo performance is not like on i3+DDR3, though stonegoal his memory and 7200rpm drive.

Also vote for an adapter cf-ide and buy a good fast card. The adapter can be ordered here

I don't see much sense to upgrade a piece of metal, the SSD will cost > 100$. The most logical would be to put just a modern screw 2.5 IDE is cheap, but the difference you'll notice compared to the old 20 koi
