There is a list. It can be any list: or half year, or month, or a type of geometric shape, etc.


It seems to me that the following approaches are not correct:
  • Required field. There is no item which is not included in this list and selected some item from the list — so the user may not populate this field.
  • The field is optional. There is no item which is not included in this list and selected some item from the list — therefore, the user is deprived of the opportunity not to specify a value in an optional field.

So right, but not quite. For example, the case with Paul, if you M, it deprives you of extra steps because M is already default.
