Very similar story with the MacBook Pro 13 2015 (MF 840) After 3 years of household chores, movies, the Internet, the game is not difficult( as the hospital connected to an external monitor and 3.5 mm to active speakers 2:1) after I brought the Mac out of sleep I realized that something was wrong with the speakers ( jbl creature old) - left channel not working and sometimes makes noise to the beat of the bass right( shorter unpleasant to listen to at all... Tried it on 2 headphones - all too! Only repair ? Help!

To start, try -

Maybe some mistake in the gland. Then try to reinstall the system.

Well, the future - go to the bluetooth devices. I have xiaomi adapter for speaker stands, beatsx - constant headset, and of a separate active speaker with its adapter.

Discharges SMC and NV RAM did not help! Now I use a Bluetooth column HK Go+Play Mini. But Bluetooth headphones yet, but sometimes you want not to disturb the others and the presence of 3.5 mm were allowed to use epplovskoy headset ( the Laptop is not exactly bathed and worked mostly from home as stats.comp. Do itself could break 3.5? The system was not perestanavlivat , I am afraid will not help - since the first day immediately grabbed a bootable flash drive El Capitan( although it is Mojave). Wanted to roll , but when I immersed myself into Recovery with the usb, put on the headphones and heard the same background in headphones(( I Think to reinstall the system?

I am sure the problem is hardware and not the fact that the problem is in the connector, replace the connector that's the least of the troubles. Connector usually dies mechanically becomes loose. Ie, if you move/press the sound appears. Burn could the audio chain. In Macs they are very clever. A separate amp to each speaker amp to the headphone output Jack, microphone amplifier. There is still a chip mixer which switches the input to the output. It runs the audio codec.

The sound firing through the connector often, just when using active speakers or other devices with external power supply.
