Why laravel doesn't return view?

Good afternoon.
There is a form that sent us to the controller, the controller function is divided into two parts
a) if you press "a"
b) if you press "b"
public function fun(Request $request) { if($request->input('a') { ............ ........... $array = [1,2,3] return view('view', [ 'arr' => $array]); } elseif($request->input('b') { ....... } }

everything works, but if I move the function in certain that the code would change to:
if($request->input('a') { $this->a(); }

the array comes up properly, but the view is not returned. ie just get a blank window without any errors, and so on. Who can know why? I suspect that in request. but this feature request is not used.
