Baseline: I have my main system (ubuntu 10.04 32bit) and virtual machine with same system for the specific task under VirtualBox, which I periodically need to run. Seamless mode thing, of course, good, but in this case not very convenient to use.

I want to do: I have two virtual desktops, and I want the virtual machine lived on one of them (when it is running) to be able to switch between systems just by switching virtual desktops. Now the problem is that I can switch the virtual machine on a separate desktop in full-screen mode and to switch back from the primary system by changing the desktop but I switch longer can — in a virtual machine your virtual desktops that are not associated with the main system.

I suspect that this is somehow a quite simple, but I can't find how — maybe someone knows?

by default VBox right ctrl detaches the capture of keyboard and mouse, then shortcut for changing desktops is done in the main system
