No idea what you need to do this to Windu to bring to in a long time the state of easy installation and uninstallation programs.

For a start, in the "appearance" disable effects (last tab).

the configs don't remember exactly where changing, but I do know that in ubuntu tweak, under session control, you have the option where you can register though compiz, metacity, even though gnome-wm chooses the available window Manager.

And why bother to remove Compiz?
It could simply be disabled, at least in the same "appearance".
Plus there is fusion-icon, which hangs in the form of an icon in the notification area, and through which you can switch between Compiz and Metacity.

In General: rebuilt of Compiz, put Ubuntu tweak. If Ubuntu tweak is being prescribed metacity as default Manager loaded still Compiz if Compiz it... = )
