A small lab of 7 computers. Require a file server of a small volume of ~500GB for storage projects and developments. Accessed are only from the internal network of the lab, up to a dozen a day.
Recommend a NAS in the area 300-600$

I've chosen nettops (aspire revo). The price maybe a little biting, but the flexibility and performance they will give odds to specialized devices. The only notable shortcoming is the lack of space for hard drives in a standard case, but 2.5" exterior screws come to the rescue. Temperature and lack of noise are also encouraging.
