Hello.

I can't find why. Some AMI (instance) on Ubuntu, you can stop and start, but some just terminate. I can not understand why.

How to teach an existing ready AMI (e.g. ami-294aa340) to stop and start?

EBS instances can be stopped. non-EBS only terminate.

The ability to stop a running instance is only supported by instances that were launched with an EBS-based AMI.

Most likely the fact that a stop does the same thing as shutting down a computer from the OS menu (that is the procedure, when I stop all services, etc.) and terminate — it's like "just cutting out food".

That is, if the OS is not loaded, nedozagruzheny, fails and some other reason (e.g., not supported) — stop not working.
