There is a program written in C# and working with a device via COM-port. The program is installed and works fine in that case, if she and the COM port is installed on the machine A. However, there is a need to run a program from another computer (machine B) with access to the device (the device is available directly only from the machine). Both companies are connected via a network.

Is there a possibility to remotely from machine B to open the port on the machine and to contact the program with the device? Solutions such as VSPE please do not offer. It's either the regular Windows tools, or writing additional module in the program to do it (but then the question, using what). DCOM, RPC, NET Remoting?

RDP is able to do COM port redirection, you can call it from the program. Or view RDP clients with the source code to include the module in your program. For instance, freerdp: www.freerdp.com/.

WinRM stuff is powerful, but requires that she be included on both sides, in addition, it focused on the use in a domain environment. More interesting option is PowerShell, although here, too, there is nuance — by default, PS off the execution of unsigned scripts.

There is a solution, alternative all software options listed above :)

The device will be available to any computer in the grid and the com port is a virtual local name (COM1 or СОМ15 as the imagination will allow).
