It is better to use to consolidate statistics from several dozen servers: RRDtool or Zabbix?

The arguments are very welcome! :)

you're comparing a hammer and loader. Kaky can be "arguments"? rrdtool is just a specific database. Zabbix is a powerful system monitoring enterprise-level, where the charting is just one of many functions, and not the most important.

zabbix — monitoring a Bang (more than 1000 hosts, services)
cacti (rrd) — graphs of network load (for clarity)
munin (rrd) is a graphics load OS

Zabbix is difficult and somewhat redundant in default configuration. However he has agents, it is a complete monitoring system. Frontend to rrdtool, I recommend cacti. Has the beginnings of monitoring, however, takes the data via SNMP. Well or plug-ins to write, that from the time of Nagios Allergy ;) If you a network device monitor — will go and cacti, in fact

zabbix is a monitoring and analysis of hundreds of hosts and services, and additional features.
cacti — the easy SNMP monitoring of hundreds pieces of iron of type of routers and switches.
munin — detailed and heterogeneous monitoring of tens of heterogeneous PCs and servers.
\r
Yes, Cactus can be finished almost everything, but I think that it is most on the place where need to monitor a large data network (or, for a large number of some other more or less the same type of SNMP sensors). If you need to keep an eye on a fleet of computers, with different OSes — it is better to put or Menina (up to hundreds of hosts, plus or minus pliers), or Zabbix (it is more difficult, but on a larger number of hosts that will be rewarded handsomely)

By Far The RRDtool. I have statistics drawn from a half dozen servers and a dozen routers. It works fast (in crone scripts). Graphs representing cgi scripts on the fly when you call (actually not loading the server with unnecessary work, for example in mrtg).

I suggest Zabbix, you will receive statistics and graphs, and monitoring alerts.

rrdtool - well this is just utility ring DB, not more, in pure form, from her little help, you need a frontend (munin or cacti)
munin - ideal for monitoring localhost out of the box set and then have monitoring of all key local resources, as soon as the need for customization - you have to write plugins in General, not difficult, but confundus, the main disadvantage is the scalability (with tens of hosts, the traffic grows sour) and the inability to change the period of data collection with gcd (every five minutes - think about anything monitoring)
cacti - more advanced than munin, you can change the period of checks, scales out of the box, but too many obscure and non-obvious things in settings (if che is off, not immediately catch up, where che fell off), regular poller will not do, you need to tie a non-native, written in C, after a month of use I had to throw this decision
zabbix - thing! the app is intuitive, scales, namely, documentation on 5+ , the main disadvantage is the database eating place spoons) so you need a good iron under the server
