Task. Building a resilient and preferably fast (hardware RAID 10) server in a hypervisor (VMWare ESXi Server). On the basis of the small experience with the hardware and the hypervisor, two questions arise.

1 — How is tracked coming from the system disks in case of hardware RAID?

2 — does the General VMWare ESXi Server ready (hardware and software)?

PS And in General, maybe something I do not know. Push in the right direction.

1. For example blogs.vmware.com/esxi/2010/04/hardware-health-monitoring-via-cim.html.
2. Exactly supported by the hardware. Software not tried. The list is here www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php.

Monitor using SNMP.

I studied the issue.
here is to split the raid controller and the ability in the conventional sense to maintain it.
\r
support: is that ESXi will see it and will use as a disk device. determined support in ESXi itself, enclosing the drivers, relatively speaking. the list of supported hardware can be found on the website of vmware.
\r
service: determining the status of the array and all sorts of array operations from within the host OS. this requires that the utility has been ported to ESXi. someone does, someone not. Adaptec, for example, in General does, but very slowly, for the latest version of ESXi utilities yet, only three.
\r
side option: take supported ESXi controller, which can be served by SNMP or can remote control via IP. but expensive and few options.
